For over 700 years, from 600 to 1300 CE, Ancestral Pueblo people resided at Mesa Verde in southwestern Colorado. The desirable qualities of Solanum jamesii, a wild potato from the Four Corners region, prompts Bamberg to wonder whether human selection centuries ago drove the characteristics of some of today’s wild potato species.
